About Us
The Portapique Market is a vibrant community market located on the Cobequid Shore in Portapique, Nova Scotia. Established in 2022, the market operates weekly and serves residents from Debert to Five Islands, improving access to fresh, local food while fostering community connection.

Who We Are
The Portapique Market is more than just a place to buy fresh produce. We are a place for community to gather, for neighbours to catch up, and to make new friends.
We have weekly themes, and we participate in local festivals & events. We support local vendors, bakers, and craftspeople by offering a weekly space for them to sell their products. We strive to have a weekly food offering for everyone, free of cost.
We have monthly 50/50 draws and other raffles to support local fundraising efforts.
We can offer food security supports for people in our communities. We are part of Farmers' Markets of Nova Scotia.
FRESH PRODUCE
Local producers supplying seasonal vegetables and fruits.
LOCAL VENDORS
Honey, fudge, baked goods, handicrafts, jewelry, & more. You never know what you'll find when shopping here.
KIDS ACTIVITIES
There's always something for kids to do, whether crafts, games, gardening, or trying new foods. Plus, there is an awesome playground on-site.
More than a Farmer's Market
More than just a farmers’ market, Portapique Market is a Good Foods Organization through Right to Food Canada, dedicated to strengthening food security, nutrition, and food literacy in the region. The market partners with local farmers, artisans, and non-profit organizations to support both mental health and community well-being through inclusive programming and events for all ages.
Portapique Market also partners with Maggie’s Place Family Resource Centre to host the Power of Produce (POP) Program, where staff from Maggie’s highlight a “flavour of the month”—a locally grown fruit or vegetable—and teach children and youth where and how local food is produced. This hands-on program builds food literacy, encourages healthy eating, and connects young people to their local food system.
The market runs several other initiatives designed to meet community needs, including Nourishing Communities for low-income households and Market Greens, a produce-prescription program that helps households with diet-related illnesses access fresh fruits and vegetables. Learn more about Market Greens, here.
Each week, the market features local vendors, food producers, crafts, and wellness-focused activities that bring people together in a welcoming, supportive environment. As a partner in the Portapique – Community Build Up Project, it continues to play a key role in rebuilding and strengthening the local community through food, connection, and care.
